HD: High definition, resolution with 720+ horizontal lines (1280×720, 1024×768, etc)

EDTV: Enhanced definition. Step down from HD, with 420 horizontal lines

Burn-in: An “after-image” that appears after a still picture is displayed for awhile

Rainbow Effect: Brief flashes of red/green/blue “shadows” seen most often when watching something that is bright/white and moving on a mostly black/dark background.

Resolution: The number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image.  Higher resolutions use more pixels to display a better image. (vertical scan lines x horizontal scan lines):

-”i”: Interlaced.  This means that the odd lines are “drawn” THEN the even lines are “drawn”

-”p”: Progressive.  This means that the ALL of the lines are “drawn” at the same time
